Hair Cutting Techniques - Geometry

On this page (below) you can see the basic cutting techniques. Hair dressers then use many combinations and variations to custom cut hair for an each client.

LAYERED CUT NO. 1

This cut is a basic layered cut, mainly used for men's hair cutting in short and very short versions and for ladies the length varies.


LAYERED CUT NO. 2

This version of a hair cut leaves the top long creating wispy sides and bottom. Hair cut closer to the head (short layers) create a style called pixie style, long layer styles are popular on TV sitcom "Friends".

LAYERED CUT NO. 3

This across the top straight cut creates hair on top shortest, sides and nape area get longer

 

LAYERED CUT NO. 4

A concave cut is another version of a layered cut, only the sides are longer then a straight layered cut. This version is good for very long hair

GRADUATED CUT (ALSO STACKED UP OR ELEVATED CUT)

To the left is a form of a layered cut. It is a great cut for widening oblong face. The short hair supports and "lifts" the longer hair creating a fullness on sides

STRAIGHT BLUNT CUT

All hair reaches to the same length and it is not angled in front

 

BLUNT CUT WITH LONGER FRONT

This hair cut is short in the nape area and slanted down on sides creating hair longer in front - a more dramatic version of a regular blunt cut
